The French road network has seen a safety improvement in 2019, with fewer fatalities than for 2018

The French road network has seen an important boost in safety for 2019. This has been revealed by new data from the French Government, highlighting a drop in road deaths for 2019 compared with 2018.

The trend on road deaths in France is for a continued drop overall, revealing a significant reduction in the years since 2010. The data shows 3,239 people died in crashes on France’s road network in 2019, a drop of eight from 2018. However, this is a notable reduction of 19% compared with the figures for 2010.

The French Government claims that the road safety improvement is due in part at least to the reduction in speed limits on secondary roads. Drivers now face a speed limit of 80km/h on secondary roads.
