Italy plans to invest €21.5 billion over 50 years in a bid to develop its highway network. The programme will include ensuring that transport in Italy is climate neutral so as to avert climate change.
The programme has been drawn up by the country’s roads firm, Autostrade per l'Italia (ASPI). By improving the network and addressing issues of traffic congestion at current hotspots, emissions would be reduced by 20%.
