The theme for the congress will be “Connecting to Empower Mobility: Roads as Enablers of a Sustainable Future for All”.

The European Union Road Federation (ERF) is a non-profit association headquartered in Brussels  which coordinates the views of Europe’s road infrastructure sector and acts as a platform for research and dialogue on mobility issues between stakeholders and institutional players. PIARC, the Permanent International Association of Road Congresses is an international forum baed near Paris, for the discussion of all aspects of roads and road networks and has 127 government members worldwide. It also retains consultative status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

The IRF World Congress – held every four years - has for almost seven decades represented an opportunity to celebrate the road and mobility sectors as enablers of growth and development. Embracing the theme “Connecting to Empower Mobility: Roads as Enablers of a Sustainable Future for All”, the congress will serve as a platform for global leaders, industry experts, academia and diverse public and private stakeholders to engage in insightful discussions and collaborative efforts, addressing pivotal issues and exploring innovations within the road and mobility sectors.

“Our chosen theme underscores our commitment to shaping a future where roads serve as pathways to empower mobility in all its forms, connecting communities and fostering sustainable development on a global scale,” said Anouar Benazzouz, IRF President since 2022.

“Whether it is by foot, bicycle, public transport, or motor vehicle in urban or rural areas, our vision is to create a transportation system that unites, empowers and provides access to opportunities for all. Join us for an inspiring journey at the IRF World Congress 2024 as we pave the way towards a future of inclusive and sustainable mobility,” said Benazzouz who is the first African president taking the helm of IRF.

Apart from the ERF and PIARC, other participating organisations include ASECAP, IBTTA, iRAP, BSEC, CEDR, ERTICO, FEHRL and more.
