The 1035 Danish Government has shelved the plans for a road toll scheme for Copenhagen. The decision has been welcomed by opposition parties, and the government is now set increase funding for public transport so that ticket prices can be reduced.
Germany is pushing ahead with its plan to charge tolls for use of its national Autobahn highway network. The plans have attracted a high degree of controversy as Germany’s Autobahn system, the world’s first national highway network, has been free for use by car drivers since its inception in the 1930s. Truck tolling was first introduced some years ago on the Autobahn system and this latest development is intended to generate additional revenue that can be used to maintain and develop the network. Colombia's Ministry of Transport is suggesting that the Avenida Longitudinal de Occidente (ALO) road project in Bogota should be carried out by Colombian energy company Empresa de Energia de Bogota (EEB).
In Indonesia the tender process is commencing for the new Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road. The project had faced earlier delays due to problems over land acquisition along the route. These have now been solved and the project should be getting underway in October 2014. The Indonesian Government is investing some US$215 million in the project, although the inner of the tender will also be expected to invest in the scheme.
