The 1035 Danish Government has shelved the plans for a road toll scheme for Copenhagen. The decision has been welcomed by opposition parties, and the government is now set increase funding for public transport so that ticket prices can be reduced.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), Britain’s largest independent road safety charity, has welcomed new UK Department for Transport (DfT) road casualty figures showing a fall in the amount of people killed or seriously injured in road accidents. The DfT reports there were 1, 680 people killed in the year ending March 2013, 10% reduction from 1, 870 in the year ending March 2012. The number of people killed or seriously injured also fell to 23, 660, a 6% decrease.
A series of road concessions will be put out to tender in Colombia. The country’s government intends to put 11,000km of road projects out for concession by December 2018. So far 34 of the 4G highway tenders have been set into motion, including 17 as contracts, another 14 that have been awarded and three that are in the process of being awarded. Two projects from the second phase of the 4G road programme, the Sisga-El Secreto highway and the Puerta de Hierro project, have been given the green light to start
