The 1035 Danish Government has shelved the plans for a road toll scheme for Copenhagen. The decision has been welcomed by opposition parties, and the government is now set increase funding for public transport so that ticket prices can be reduced.
A proposed toll road project for the Indonesian island of Java is now being evaluated. The feasibility study for the project is being carried out by the Priority Infrastructure Preparation Committee (KPPIP). The US$887.3 million project is for the Bawen to Yongjakarta toll road link, running roughly north to south across Central Java. The 71km route has been proposed by Indonesia's Ministry of Public Works and Housing Committee. The route will feature an elevated section.
User-pays is crystallising as the preferred option by governments and taxpayers around the world, said Jack Opiola, managing partner of international road usage charging consultancy, D’Artagnan Consulting.
Opiola, who chaired a session at the inaugural IRF - Roads Australia Regional Conference for Asia and Australasia in Sydney earlier this month, has been working with several US states which are wrestling with the ‘who pays’ issue.

A half day seminar has been run in Nepal with aim of reducing road fatalities. The seminar focussed on the Role of Roads Board Nepal in creating road safety awareness. This event was set up by the Road Board Nepal, a government agency established under the Road Board Act 2002. The agency has the aim of providing a sustainable fund for planned maintenance of the roads in association with local NGOs; Nepal Forum for Rural Transport and Development (NFRTD) and Nepal Road Safety Society.
