Several important road projects are now progressing in Colombia. Colombia's national infrastructure agency (ANI says that seven of the country’s fourth generation (4G) road projects should be finished during 2021. A further 10 will be completed during 2022, while one was completed in 2020.

Construction of the 4G programme of works is worth an impressive US$13.16 billion in all, with around half of the necessary financing having been set in place so far.

The first of the next phase 5G projects, for the Accessos Cali – Palmira project, is opening for tender. Other 5G road projects are also now being planned.

Meanwhile, a finance package worth $200.2 million will pay for improvement works to the highway linking Bogota with Girardot. The financing is being supplied by a series of parties; Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Banking, Banco Santander and MUFG Bank and the agreement was brokered by the national infrastructure agency (ANI). The concession for the route is managed by Constructora Conconcreto and Vinci Highways Concessions. This new finance package will help pay for the purchase of construction equipment for the highway widening work, as well as for materials and personnel.

And work is well underway on the road improvement work for the Transversal del Sisga route. The concession for the route is managed by Concesion Transversal. Improvements being carried out include upgrades to bridges and new lighting for tunnel sections and 133km of the 137km route now has a new asphalt surface. Work on the route has been carried out in four separate sections and should be complete by the end of 2021.
