Colombian costs climb

Major cost increases are expected for the 1,250km Autopistas de la Montana highways project in Colombia.

Major cost increases are expected for the 1,250km Autopistas de la Montana highways project in Colombia. According to local company 1311 ISA, the cost of the project will exceed the projected US$3.5 billion. However the new links are expected to offer better transport connections and boost travel speeds.

  • Colombian highway project open to tenders

    A major highway project for Colombia has now been opened to tenders. The project is for the Autopistas de la Prosperidad highway and the first five sections of this link have been opened to tender. Only 10 construction firms are being selected to send final bids, while the contracts will be awarded in November 2013.     In Chile the Colombian highway operator ISA will carry out comprehensive repairs to Ruta 5 before the end of 2010. The company has been criticised by Chile’s Ministry for Public Works (MOP) for constant delays to road repair works following February's earthquake. The MOP threatened ISA with legal action, which prompted the new repair schedule being announced.
