Colombian city Cali is spending a healthy US$300 million on major road infrastructure projects. These are scheduled to commence in the second half of 2010.

Colombian city Cali is spending a healthy US$300 million on major road infrastructure projects. These are scheduled to commence in the second half of 2010. The Cali city council has been the target of criticism for the projects but says that the work is necessary to reduce congestion and improve road safety in the city.

    Construction is commencing on a key contract for Colombian road firm Nueva Via al Mar (Covimar). The firm will handle the 32km Mulalo-Loboguerrero fourth generation (4G) road project. The new route will improve transport of heavy goods between Buenaventura and Cali. Covimar has the concession for the link until 2040. The project is costing US$527.6 million but faces a number of environmental challenges as it passes through a protected area as well as over a number of waterways.

  • Colombia cuts Cali crashes for buses

    The Colombian city of Cali has made positive steps in reducing the number of crashes involving its city buses. Data shows that there were 101 crashes during January and February 2018, compared with 132 in the same period in 2017. Of the 101 bus crashes, 71 also involved cars, 16 also involved motorcycles and nine involved pedestrians. There have been three fatalities involving bus crashes in this time.     The Colombian authorities are agreeing terms with the Colombian electricity transmission company Interconexion Electrica (ISA) for the Autopistas de la Montana highway project. The Bogota-Villavicencio highway was also awarded although other infrastructure projects are still awaiting approval.
