Bosnia’s state highways agency Autoceste has chosen Turkish construction company Cengiz Insaat Sanayi to build the Medakovo-Ozimice section of European transport Corridor Vc.

Cengiz submitted the lowest bid in the tender which attracted three offers, according to Autoceste. The deal is worth €361.8 million for construction of the 21.3km section with work to be completed within 30 months.

The section includes one interchange, two rest areas, eight bridges and viaducts, two overpasses, 15 underpasses and one 2.2km-long tunnel.

The 700km-long Corridor 5c - or ‘Vc’ if using a Roman numeral - is a major pan-European transport link connecting Hungary and eastern Croatia to neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Adriatic Sea. Corridor Vc connects the port of Ploce in Croatia with Budapest in Hungary, stretching some 340 km across Bosnia.

The majority of the route crosses Bosnia and Herzegovina and is a key priority for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and its partners, in particular the European Union, which helped fund the work. The project is financed through a loan provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and a grant from the European Union (EU).

Last December, Croatia opened a section of the Corridor 5c motorway between Halasica Bridge and the town of Beli Manastir.
