Canadian highway deal

Plans are now being worked on in Canada to extend the key Highway 407 in Ontario.

Plans are now being worked on in Canada to extend the key Highway 407 in Ontario. The two stage extension programme will see the highway being lengthened by 22km initially and then with a further 23km section being added. The first section will run from Brock Road in Pickering to Harmony Road in Oshawa and is due for completion by 2015. The second phase will link with Highway 35/115 and is due for completion by 2020. The total cost of the 45km highway extension has yet to be revealed and the link will be tolled to pay for the work.

    Ferrovial has lost control of the 407 International highway in Canada, one of the Spanish group's star assets. The Supreme Court in the province of Ontario has ruled in favour of co-shareholder pension fund Canada Pension Plan Investment Board to buy another stake - 10.01% - in the highway.     The China Communications Construction Company is to take part in the second and third construction phases of Tehran’s north highway project. A memorandum of understanding signed earlier this year marks the first time a Chinese contractor has worked in Iran. The second section covers around 23km and includes a 6.5km tunnel and a 16.5km highway. The third section spans about 45km, of which 38km will be through tunnels.
