Australia's transport plan

The Australian Government is on track with its US$37 billion (A$42 billion) stimulus plan, announced in January 2009. The country's Federal Government has approved over 49,000 infrastructure and construction projects in all, including a number of key highway projects.

The Australian Government is on track with its US$37 billion (A$42 billion) stimulus plan, announced in January 2009. The country's Federal Government has approved over 49,000 infrastructure and construction projects in all, including a number of key highway projects. As one of these projects, the Australian Government is spending US$180 million (A$200 million) on upgrade work to the route linking Melton West and Bacchus Bush at Anthony's Crossing in Victoria. The work is expected to be complete by early 2012 and includes two new access ramps to Melbourne at Hopetoun Park Road, six new bridges and the duplicating and straightening of a 5km highway. In addition, a new link between Bacchus March and Woolpack Road will be built providing direct freeway links in every direction through a new interchange. This highway improvement project will tackle congestion in the area, shortening journey times and helping improve safety.
