Plans are now well in hand for Australia's new Hill M2 highway in Sydney.

Plans are now well in hand for Australia's new Hill M2 highway in Sydney. An agreement has been struck by the authorities in New South Wales (NSW) and road tolling firm the 3365 Transurban Group for the project. Construction work for the US$544 million (A$550 million) project is expected to start in December of this year and is due for completion in 2013. Much of the work will be carried out by 2685 Leighton Contractors.

    Transurban, an Australian manager of highways and developer of urban toll roads, saw toll revenue for the December 2014 quarter increase by more than 63% to US$304 million compared to the same period last year. For the half-year ended December 2014, toll revenue rose by 63.7% to nearly $602 million, compared to the corresponding period in 2013, a company statement said.     The consortium building Australia's new Northern Link tollway expects the project to require four years to complete. The US$1.41 billion (A$1.5 billion) project is being carried out by a consortium led by Spanish contrator Acciona, with construction due to commence at the end of this year. The work is being part funded by a $745 million loan from the State Government for the area and will also receive $532 million of funding from the Federal Government.
