Indonesia toll projects Work on a 39km toll road linking Pemalang with Batang in Indonesia is expected to start in mid-2012, although the finance structure is still being established.
Romania's long planned highway expansion programme is finally gathering pace. Funding for the projects has been provided but although many feasibility studies had been carried out, little work had been carried out until now.
Work is progressing well on a huge flyover project in Bangladesh. The Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Flyover looks likely to open to traffic shortly, although the intersections will still have to be completed. The link is 5.2km long. Work to build five of the access ramps has still to begin however. The flyover will join the Muradpur and Lalkhanbazar areas and will help to cut congestion at peak travel periods.
Volvo tracked pavers are helping China meet its ambitious programme of building 10,000km of roads annually. China’s ambitious road building programme is seeing over 10,000km of new highway being completed every year. Productivity, reliability and good uptime of equipment are key to this programme being achieved. And to the north of Xi’an, four Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) ABG8820 tracked pavers recently worked 14 hours/day paving the final layer of asphalt on a new highway. This 96km route opened
India’s massive Zojila Tunnel project in Jammu & Kashmir is attracting new bidding. The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDC) is asking for new bids for the project. A number of Indian and international firms are expected to enter bids, with some planning join ventures for the work, which is expected to cost US$1.55 billion.
