A major highway deal has been agreed for a road project in Gujarat, India, worth an estimated US$810.8 million. A major highway deal has been agreed for a road project in Gujarat, India, worth an estimated US$810.8 million.

It will be handled under the build, finance, operate and transfer basis and will involve upgrading and widening to six lanes a 102km section of National Highway 8 (NH-8) from Ahmedabad-Vadodara.

The project also includes upgrading 92km of the existing Ahmedabad-Vadodara expressway.

Work is expected to take three years to complete, and the 25-year concession deal for the project has been agreed between IRB Ahmedabad Vadodara Super Express Tollway unit of 2700 IRB Infrastructure Developers and the 292 National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

In another development, a joint venture is being established comprising 3063 Ennore Port, L&T Ship Building and 2701 Tamilnadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) for construction of a 25.5km road project to connect Kattupalli port and Ennore port in Chennai.

The road will be constructed on a build, operate and transfer basis at a cost expected to be around $81.5 million.

  • India’s new highway links are being built

    Road development work continues in India, with the country planning its highway infrastructure expansion. The projects are being planned by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). A new 127km highway will connect Lucknow with Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. The four lane route will also pass through Ayyubganj and Musafirkhana and is expected to cost in the region of US$425.3 million to construct. The work is being carried out by the contractor Dilip Buildon.

    The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded a US$182.5 million contract to widen the Yamunanagar-Saha-Barwala-Panchkula route in Haryana.     The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded a highway widening contract worth US$202 million (INR 12.32 billion) to IL&FS Engineering and Construction Company. IL&FS will widen to four lanes 127km of the Patna-Gaya-Dobhi section of NH-83 in the north eastern Indian state of Bihar. The project is due for completion in three years and it will be undertaken under the Official Development Assistance Loans programme of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
