The issue of barrier conspicuity presents safety challenges and a novel painting system has been developed by 2289 EZ-Liner that is said to boost productivity. The firm has a patent pending for its new Ultra Guard device, which can be mounted on a standard striping machine. The Ultra Guard unit can be used to paint lines on either steel or concrete barriers and the package includes an airless or airpsray paint gun. Increased visibility and safety is claimed and the firm's general manager, Dave Van Gorp said, "We can put on paint that has reflective beads in it."
