Polish highway connection to be completed

Poland is pushing ahead with plans to complete a section of the A1 highway. This stretch of the highway lies between Pyrzowice and Czestochowa in the south of the country. The work is expected to be funded to the tune of €315 million from the EU Cohesion Fund. Poland is pushing ahead with plans to complete a section of the A1 highway. This stretch of the highway lies between Pyrzowice and Czestochowa in the south of the country. The work is expected to be funded to the tune of €315 million from the EU Cohesion Fund. This stretch of highway will play a key role in Poland’s future economic development when it opens to traffic in mid-2019. It will improve the transport connections with the important industrial city of Katowice in the south of the country and also with the airport at Pyrzowice serving Katowice, as well as reducing traffic congestion in Czestochowa. It will also improve the connections to the D1 highway, which links Poland with the Czech Republic, as well as to Southern Europe.

    One of Poland’s major highway projects is now progressing on track, with regular shipments of asphalt proving crucial. The major Polish oil and petrol company, Lotos, is playing a key role in material supplies for the country’s A1 highway project.     Poland’s Ministry of Transport plans to invest heavily in road projects from 2014-2020. The Polish road authority, GDDKiA, will invest €16.91 billion in new roads. A key project will be for the section of the Berlin-Lisbon A2 highway that runs through Poland.     Almost €790 million will be allocated from the Cohesion Fund for three road projects which improve the country's communication with Germany and other Western and Eastern European countries.
