Philippines implementing transport projects

A series of major highway projects are now being implemented in the Philippines. Key projects being implemented close to Davao City include the US$380 million Davao City-Panabo City bypass, the $537.5 million Coastal Road and two flyovers worth $14 million in total. RSSA series of major highway projects are now being implemented in the Philippines. Key projects being implemented close to Davao City include the US$380 million Davao City-Panabo City bypass, the $537.5 million Coastal Road and two flyovers worth $14 million in total. The bypass project will cut journey times and includes the construction of a tunnel section, with a portion of the funding being provided by the 2416 Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The new coastal route will also cut congestion and journey times for users.

Meanwhile work on a new highway connecting Quezon province and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) is due to start during this year. Work on the $261 million SLEx-TR4 project will improve journeys between Metro Manila and Bicol, Quezon, Batangas and Laguna. The four lane SLEx-TR4 route is being built in five sections: Candelaria to Lucena City; Tiaong, Quezon to Candelaria in Quezon; San Pablo City to Tiaong; Sto Tomas to Laguna's Makban; Makban to San Pablo City.

    Japanese consultants are planning to realign a Kenyan bypass, as Shem Oirere reports. Japanese consultants are resolving an engineering quagmire involving a 17.5km bypass in Kenya's Coast region. The new design realigning the bypass is underway by Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) consultants. The road is an alternative link from the hinterland to the south coast and to the proposed Dongo Kundu Port. The 23m-wide bypass would also serve to reduce traffic congestion across the Likoni Channel.
