Japanese financing will help pay for new bridges in Nicaragua. The funding package is worth nearly US$43 million and is being provided by the 2416 Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The four bridge will be constructed on the road that connects Rio Blanco and Siuna in Nicaragua’s North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region (RACCN). The agreement has been settled between JICA and the Nicaraguan Government. The new bridges will help improve connections between the Pacific Coast Coast and the Caribbean Coast, part of a plan managed by Nicaragua’s Transport and Infrastructure (MTI). Construction work is underway at present to build a new 73km road connecting Bluefield on the country’s Caribbean coast with Nueva Guinea on the Pacific Coast, with the first 26.5km close to completion. Nicaragua has had a pressing need to improve road transport connections between its two coasts, which will help boost economic development in and around Bluefields in particular.
