A series of road projects is being awarded in Nepal. The announcements over the winning tenders for 13 projects is being made in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu. Financing worth US$300 million is being provided from Indian sources.
The Oman Government has awarded a major road upgrade project to Indian contractor Larsen & Toubro. The 76km project is worth just over US$249 million. The route is at present a two lane road and will be widened between the towns of Bidbid and Sur. The work includes building 10 interchanges, seven pedestrian underpasses and five underpasses for vehicles. It also includes building service roads.
Strong interest is being seen for the project to build Uganda’s new Kampala-Jinja Expressway. So far eight bids have been submitted for the project, which is expected to cost around US$985 million to build. The tender for the project should be awarded in December 2019. So far the bidders include the Austrian contractor Strabag, the Chinese contractor China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and the Indian contractor Shapoorji Pallonji Group. A funding package worth US$460 million is being provided by the World Bank’s International Development Association to pay for the upgrade to the Afghanistan-Pakistan road upgrade.
