A series of road projects is being awarded in Nepal. The announcements over the winning tenders for 13 projects is being made in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu. Financing worth US$300 million is being provided from Indian sources.
The Chinese Government is building a 100m long bridge over the Trishuli River that will improve connections from Nepal-China. The structure will be located in Rasuwaghadi and the project has been planned after both countries agreed a deal for this second friendship bridge. The bridge is expected to cost US$ 1.42 million and its construction is being funded by the Chinese Government. The new link will connect the Rasuwaghadi Highway with China and is expected to help develop cross-country trade and transport
Nicaragua’s capital Managua is to benefit from a project to widen and upgrade the Pista Juan Pablo II road. Funding is being provide from a number of sources. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing US$136 million while the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) is providing $105.5 million. The council of Managua meanwhile will provide $33.4 million. The work will see upgrades to 9.55km of the route, which also includes building new flyover sections.
India’s Ministry of Transport and Highways is looking to source loans to help fund highway development. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) looks set to provide a partial source for the funding required. In all just over US$885 million will be needed to pay for India’s National Highway Development Project (NHDP). Infrastructure Malta, the government’s road agency, is putting out to tender contracts for the upgrade of 170 residential roads worth around €70 million.
The work is divided into six contracts and covers a total of 52km of roads as well as 85km of pavement/sidewalks, signage and where necessary stormwater improvements.
This latest announcement is part of a wider €700 million upgrade over seven years announced last year. The government let 120 contracts last year, of which 31 projects have started. Fiv
