A series of road projects is being awarded in Nepal. The announcements over the winning tenders for 13 projects is being made in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu. Financing worth US$300 million is being provided from Indian sources.
The authorities in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu are working on widening the Kathmandu Valley road, a key project that has already seen the demolition of many structures along its boundary. The take-up of land has been eased by The Road Act, Nepal, which secures the roadside area of 25m on either side of the road on the National Highway.

Data from the Nepalese Government shows that work is on-going to upgrade the country’s road network. Public Road Statistics from the Ministry of Physical Planning, Works and Transport Management show that 1,180km of new roads have been constructed in Nepal in the 2011-2012 fiscal year. The statistics reveal that of the 1,180km of roads, 290km were surfaced with asphalt and 407km were gravel roads, while there were also 47 new bridges built in the period.
