A series of road projects is being awarded in Nepal. The announcements over the winning tenders for 13 projects is being made in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu. Financing worth US$300 million is being provided from Indian sources.
The World Bank is providingUS$99 million in funding to Nepal for a major transport project. The funding will come in the form of loans and grant assistance and is aimed at the Nepal-India Regional Trade and Transport Project (NIRTTP). This project includes the improvements to the Birgunj-Kathmandu corridor as well as the construction of a series of upgrades of the existing Narayanghat-Mugling road. The work will also include the construction of a logistics centre. The loans are worth $72 million while $27 m
The Nepalese Government is setting out a strategy to invest heavily in its transport connections. The country has set a budget of US$5.49 billion for the fiscal year 2011-2012, with $530 million to be spent on the infrastructure development programme.
A series of major road projects are now being planned in Tanzania, with funding sources for much of the work having been identified and secured. The largest of these is being delivered with a World Bank loan worth US$425 million, which will help pay for transport improvements in Tanzania’s capital, Dar es Salaam.
A series of major road contracts have been awarded in Paraguay, although delays are being seen on one key link. The country’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) gave its approval for a series of road contracts to be awarded. These four packages are worth over US$136 million and are for18 different sections.
