A series of road projects is being awarded in Nepal. The announcements over the winning tenders for 13 projects is being made in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu. Financing worth US$300 million is being provided from Indian sources.
A half day seminar has been run in Nepal with aim of reducing road fatalities. The seminar focussed on the Role of Roads Board Nepal in creating road safety awareness. This event was set up by the Road Board Nepal, a government agency established under the Road Board Act 2002. The agency has the aim of providing a sustainable fund for planned maintenance of the roads in association with local NGOs; Nepal Forum for Rural Transport and Development (NFRTD) and Nepal Road Safety Society. Tendering is opening for the consultation work for Nepal’s major Kathmandu-Terai/Madesh Expressway project. Romania is keen to develop its road network and is seeking EU funding to help pay for a series of major projects. One of the key projects being prioritised is for the new ring road around the capital Bucharest. Building this ring road would reduce the numbers of vehicles having to pass through the city, helping to address congestion issues at peak periods.
