A series of road projects is being awarded in Nepal. The announcements over the winning tenders for 13 projects is being made in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu. Financing worth US$300 million is being provided from Indian sources.
In Indonesia, state-controlled toll road operator Jasa Marga has secured a loan worth nearly US$124 million to finance its Medan-Kualanamu-Tebing Tinggi (MKTT) toll road project.
The loan is secured from a consortium of banks that include Bank BRI, Bank Mandiri and Bank BNI.
The total cost of the project is around $315 million. The tender process of the project is being conducted and the winning bidder will be revealed in May.

Funding from Japan will help pay for a major tunnel project in Nepal. The work is expected to cost close to US$200 million and includes building two tunnel stretches. The project was first put forward in 2010 and work is now intended to commence in 2020, with its completion scheduled for 2023. The tunnel sections will be built in the area close to Bhaktapur, which lies to the east of capital Kathmandu. Once the links are complete this is expected to reduce traffic congestion to the eastern side of Kathmandu
Reports from Nepal highlight the devastation the country has suffered due to its recent massive earthquake. Measuring an enormous 7.8 on the Richter scale, the quake has demolished many buildings in capital Kathmandu, as well as damaging roads and other infrastructure. This was followed by a series of aftershocks, one of which measured 6.7 on the Richter scale.
