Key Philippines highway projects commencing

Two major highway projects are now moving forward in the Philippines. One is for the development of a highway stretch to connect the North Luzon Expressway and South Luzon Expressway. The other is for a new coastal road stretch close to Davao City. Two major highway projects are now moving forward in the Philippines. One is for the development of a highway stretch to connect the North Luzon Expressway and South Luzon Expressway. The other is for a new coastal road stretch close to Davao City.

The US$485million North Luzon Expressway to South Luzon Expressway highway connection is being handled under a 35 year concession package. 3195 Metro Pacific Tollways (MPT) is investing $332 million in the project, which is being handled under the build-operate-transfer model.

Meanwhile in Davao City a new coastal road is being planned, which will run on reclaimed land. The coastal road will measure 35km long although the project will also include reclaiming around 200ha of land. The new link will connect with a new port being planned as well as new residential and industrial areas. Plans are in place also for work on 10 bypass sections around Davao City, measuring a total of 108km.

    A major new tolled expressway project is now being planned in the Philippines. The proposed NLEx-Cavitex Port Expressway Link will provide a connection between the North Luzon Expressway and Manila-Cavite Expressway. The project to build the link is expected to cost US$1.73 billion, with work being carried out in three stages of 5.7km, 4.8km and 4.6km.
