Japanese funding will help pay for the construction of a key bridge link in Sri Lanka. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is providing a loan worth US$292.14 million for the bridge project. The new link will span the Kelani River.
Two key projects will help boost road transportation in Myanmar. In Yangon, the regional government is to fund construction of an overpass located at Tamwe Junction. The move comes after the Japanese government declined to fund the works due to the high cost, expected to be in excess of US$120 million. In the 2015 to 2016 financial year, overpasses at Kokkaine Junction, Tamwe Junction and Eight-mile junction will be built. The Yangon regional government will fund the work with its budget of $20.66 million.
A loan facility from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will help fund work on the project to construct a new bridge over the River Ganges in India’s Bihar State. Because of the width of the river at this point, the bridge will be close to 10km in length, making it the longest in India. The new bridge will improve transport connections between the north and south of the state and the project is expected to cost around US$500 million.
