Japanese funding will help pay for the construction of a key bridge link in Sri Lanka. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is providing a loan worth US$292.14 million for the bridge project. The new link will span the Kelani River.
A novel concept aimed at boost road funding is being introduced by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). The new ODOT programme is aimed at generating millions in new revenue for reinvestment into highway funding. The scheme will permit advertising and sponsorship opportunities at interstate rest areas and welcome centres throughout Ohio. ODOT says it is seeking competitive bids for the Sponsorship, Maintenance, and Advertising Revenue Tartgeted (SMART) programme.
Uganda is requesting a loan worth some US$145 million from the World Bank. The loan has been recommended by the Ugandan Parliament. Provided by the World Bank's International Development Association (IDA), the funding will help pay for Uganda’s the road connectivity development project. This will focus on work in the country’s Albertine Region districts over a five-year period. The road connectivity development project will boost access to infrastructure and help develop the economy of the Albertine Region.

A loan from the World Bank will help pay for a series of road upgrades across Nepal. The US$133 million loan will be directed towards improving 12,412km of Nepal’s road network, including both major highways and secondary link roads. Also benefiting from the loan will be many of Nepal’s bridges. Maintenance work will be carried out to 90 bridges and safety measures will be improved on 180 bridges. Construction work will be completed on 92 bridges being built at present, while a further 115 existing bridges
