Japanese funding will help pay for the construction of a key bridge link in Sri Lanka. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is providing a loan worth US$292.14 million for the bridge project. The new link will span the Kelani River.
Financing from the World Bank will help pay for bridge building work in Nepal. The road from Muglin to Narayanghat is being widened currently, which will see the route featuring a lane in either direction, rather than the single lane that carries all traffic at present. This will boost its capacity and reduce delays to drivers on the route, which carries around 20,000 vehicles/day. Funding has been secured to help pay for road rebuilding work in Puerto Rico. The US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is providing US$110 million to Puerto Rico’s highway and transportation agency, Autoridad de Carreteras y Transportacion (ACT). This funding will be used for Puerto Rico’s Road Construction and Reconstruction Accelerated Programme.
A loan worth US$230 million from the World Bank will help pay for a major highway upgrade in Bolivia. The highway connects San Ignacio de Velasco and San Jose de Chiquitos in Santa Cruz. The funding will pay for the route to be paved with a new surface, which will help deliver lower journey times for road users, as well as improving safety levels. The upgrade to the road will help to increase capacity and will also provide a boost to the local economy in the Santa Cruz area of the country.
