Development plan for East Indonesia

The Indonesian Ministry of Public Works and Housing is setting out development plans for East Indonesia. The infrastructure works will include building roads and bridges, with a projected budget of US$931.2 million. The Indonesian Ministry of Public Works and Housing is setting out development plans for East Indonesia. The infrastructure works will include building roads and bridges, with a projected budget of US$931.2 million. One of the main projects will be for the completion of the Trans Papua route, which should be ready for traffic by 2018. The 900km Trans Papua project will run through Merauke to Jayapura, Nabire, Manokwari and Sorong. Some $447 million will be spent developing infrastructure in Papua while a further £298 million will be targeted for infrastructure on West Papua.

    Work on Indonesia’s key Trans-Papua road project is now expected to complete in 2018, later than originally intended. The route will measure 4,300km when complete and work on 3,850km of the route has already been finished. The country’s Ministry of Public Works and Housing has said that the completion of the route will help cut transport costs, boosting competitiveness. But work on a 30km stretch of the road between Manokwari and Kibar has still to be finished due to various problems however.
