Work is now underway on a major highway contract in the Netherlands, worth a total of €220 million. The project is for the financing, design, construction, management and maintenance of the reconstruction of the A27 highway in the section between Utrecht North and the Eemnes Junction. Also included in the package is the A1 highway between the Eemnes Junction and the Bunschoten-Spakenburg interchange.

The work is being handled by a construction consortium comprising the firms 1271 Heijmans, 6343 Fluor and 3i Infrastructure, with the deal being structured as a 25 year management and maintenance package. The work includes widening the A27 highway so that it will feature three lanes in either direction. It also involves widening the A1 highway so that it will feature four lanes in either direction.

And another key portion of the work will be to boost capacity at the A27/A1 connecting curve within the Eemnes Junction. The project is being carried out for the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management of the Netherlands (Rijkswaterstaat). The work will help boost safety and capacity on the A27 and A1 highways and reduce the risk of crashes as well as congestion. The consortium partners have managed to source the necessary financing for the project, which is due for completion during 2019.
