Chinese funding for Senegal road project

Chinese funding will help deliver the construction of a major new road project in Senegal. A loan worth US$704.6 million will help finance the construction of Senegal’s new 113km highway connecting Touba and Thiès. The contractor China Road and Bridge Construction (CRBC) will carry out the construction works, which is expected to require 45 months to complete. The loan will be paid back over a 25-year period using toll revenues.

    The National Road No 2 project in Senegal is to benefit from partial funding being provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). The new National Road No 2 project will run 336km and connect Ndioum, Ourossogui and Bakel, with the ADFD supplying US$14.4 million for the highway construction. The source of the remaining funding required for the project has yet to be announced. One the highway has been constructed it will help boost transport and lower journey times.
