The 10km widening project is intended to reduce journey times for users and boost capacity, with the work due for completion towards the end of 2020. The stretch of route carries around 85,000 vehicles/day and suffers from congestion at peak periods. Funding is being provided jointly by the Australian Federal Government and the Queensland State Government.
