Colorado construction contract to cut congestion

A new road tolling plan will help cut congestion in Colorado. A new road tolling plan will help cut congestion in Colorado. The 5406 Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has a US$1.8 billion project proposed to expand toll lanes for sections of Interstates I-25 and I-70. The project will address sections of the east segment of I-25 and to a stretch of I-70 as this is seen as the best way to tackle congestion in this area of the network. The plan would cover the I-70 corridor north of downtown Denver. CDOT hopes to borrow the necessary US$1.2 billion funding from the 908 US Government to help finance the project and to repay the loans with fee money from the Colorado Bridge Enterprise fund. The plan includes setting up a landscaped cover over I-70 as it runs by Swansea Elementary School and lowering the route by around 12m between Brighton and Colorado boulevards. It also includes adding one lane in each route through to I-270 and adding two tolled express lanes in each direction via the lowered stretch, as well as removing the aging and deteriorating viaduct between Colorado and Brighton boulevards.

That’s $160 billion worth of goods trucked each year between Detroit in the US state of Michigan and the Canadian city of Windsor in the province of Ontario - the Windsor-Detroit Corridor. There are several types of crossings, but the vast majority of commercial traffic must use the 2.3km Ambassador Bridge (see box). A new bridge was initially prop

The biggest problem on UK roads is congestion, and there is no shortage of ideas as to how it should be tackled. Patrick Smith reports. Congestion (and how to relieve it), along with safety, are among the top priorities facing those responsible for looking after the UK's roads. Road pricing, car-share lanes, greener vehicle initiatives and alternative methods of transport such as buses, trams and rail are all part of the approach, but prior to the current economic climate the nation's love affair with the c
