The project connects Gebze in the northwestern province of Izmit with Aegean province of Izmir via Orhangazi in the province of Bursa. The Turkish Motor Highways Directorate (3337 KGM) awarded the project to a consortium: 3338 Nurol-Özaltin-3340 Makyol-1324 Astaldi-4149 Yüksel-3342 Göçay. This consortium will build and manage the 420km long highway under a 22 year concession package.

In addition to construction the highway, the work involves the construction of 30 viaducts, four tunnels, 209 bridges, 18 booths and five highway maintenance operation centres.
