Planning Brussels traffic management improvement

Plans are being worked on intended to improve traffic flow around Belgium’s capital Brussels. The local government for the Flanders Region is considering a number of plans at present. The first would see a 15km tunnel running from Grand-Bigard to Woluwe-Saint-Etinne. The second option is for a second ring road to be construction between Alost, Malines and Louvain, which would leave the current ring road for traffic moving into and out of Brussels.

A further option to be considered is a tunnel from Sterrebeek to Zaventem Airport. Meanwhile a road maintenance budget of €90 million is being reserved for road maintenance in Belgium’s Walloon region for the next three years.

The budget was allocated at 50% according to the number of km and at 50% according to the number of inhabitants. Seven cities will benefit: Charleroi, Liege, Namur, Tournai, Mons, La Louviere and Seraing.
