3608 EFKON is playing an important role in the construction of the €660 million Limerick Tunnel project in Ireland.

The project forms part of the country’s Transport 21 Plan, a huge road construction programme while the tunnel is the largest civil engineering work for the Dublin area since 1920.

Efkon’s portion of the project is worth €40 million, and has included installing sophisticated intelligent transport management technology to control traffic flow and provide safety systems.

Once commissioned in September this year, the Limerick Tunnel will help reduce congestion from the centre of the city by up to 40,000 vehicles/day.

The tunnel runs under the River Shannon and the project has also included building 10km of new road and work started in August 2006.
