Business is picking up for Vacuworx: the HL Series hydraulic barrier lifters
Highway construction projects can be particularly challenging when space is limited, roads are crowded and time is short. To meet these challenges, the US company Vacuworx has developed the HL Series Hydraulic Barrier Lifters.

Vacuworx describes the lifters as “a smarter way to handle concrete barriers”. The traditional method of moving concrete road barriers with slings and chains is slow and lacks control, not to mention increasing the dangers of accidents for employees.

Designed for use with a variety of equipment, including excavators and backhoes, the HL Series lifters connect easily and work with the host’s hydraulic system. Elastomer grips provide superior performance with full surface contact without damaging materials.

It is equipped with a hydraulic lock for safety to prevent loss of load if hydraulic pressure is lost. With 360° rotation, the HL Series is perfect for manoeuvring in confined spaces during road, bridge and highway applications.

Precision handling capabilities and wireless remote operation from the cab of the host machine makes loading, unloading and installation fast and easy and without the need to have someone continually guide the barrier on the ground.

From an environmental perspective, Vacuworx hydraulic lifting systems produce near zero noise and air pollution, ideal for construction sites within city limits or with strict emission guidelines.

The HL B1 is designed to lift concrete road barriers up to 2,720kg and nearly 3.7m long while the HL B2 can handle barriers up to 35,275kg and nearly 9.2m long.

Quick-couplers are available for virtually all host machines for the ultimate in attachment versatility and even greater productivity on the job.

The HL Series Hydraulic Barrier Lifters also meet or exceed all global safety and engineering standards, including OSHA, ISO, ASME and CE.

Vacuworx lifters can be attached to hydraulic excavators and backhoes - with or without a coupler system - wheel or track type loaders, cranes, pipe layers, skid steers, forklifts and knuckle booms and can also be mounted for a variety of in-plant applications.

Road construction work with moving traffic always represents a major challenge. This is especially true when only one lane can be closed, consequently leaving little space for working and manoeuvring. That was exactly the case for a rehabilitation project on the A2 motorway in Austria between Vienna and Graz near Schäffern. However, the job was further complicated by another factor: all access roads to the job site were roughly 1km apart. Ensuring an uninterrupted supply of mix to the paver under these

The A7 is being widened between Hamburg and Bordesholm from four lanes to six - in some places to eight - to ensure the motorway remains an efficient traffic artery. The aim is to create a pavement with a high degree of driving comfort but which withstands the loads of heavy-goods traffic. For widening the 60km stretch in the Schleswig-Holstein region, consortium Via Solutions Nord and joint venture ARGE A7 Hamburg-Bordesholm opted for steel reinforced concrete paving with an exposed aggregate concrete s

MacDill is home to 16 KC-135 Stratotankers and three C-37 Gulfstreams, which use the runway every day. At any point, there will be a steady flow of aircraft departing and landing on the
