High precision concrete elements have been made for an Austrian tunnel project, with help from a versatile Liebherr concrete mixer.
A new 718 Liebherr Compactmix 1.0 plant is being used as part of a process in the manufacture of pre-fabricated concrete components. The Compactmix 1.0 compact mixing system was bought by a facility in Türkheim, Germany and its versatility has helped in integrating the unit into the plant's existing production hall. A conveyor belt for the concrete links the mixing system to the prefabricated part production section. The Liebherr ring-pan mixer Type RIM-M is equipped with a mechanical agitator system, and along with the sophisticated Litronic-MPS II microprocessor control package, allows high quality concrete to be produced to meet various requirements.

The Türkheim facility has been producing C40/50 concrete by using high-performance flow additives and quality cement.

The factory has been producing special parts for use in tunnel construction, which have to be manufactured to extremely high tolerances. The Türkheim facility has made a series of components for the second bore of the Pfänder tunnel in Austria, using a two-shift operation to make 19,500 segments in a 15 month time frame. The sizes of the formwork elements are different, and up to 5.8m³ of concrete is required per element. One single finished segment tips the scales at a weight of up to 15tonnes and these have then been supplied to the construction site near Bregenz to ensure just-in-time delivery.

The Nordhavnsvej – Vej- og Tunnelentreprise (Nordhavnsvej) project is Copenhagen’s largest infrastructure project in the last 50 years. The 1.65km-long route will eventually link the Danish capital’s northern port area with the Helsingør motorway. It runs through a very densely built urban area, in parts at depths of up to 22m. One particular challenge regarding the execution was planning the course of the tunnel because the underground structure also crosses a very busy railway line.

A massive construction project has been underway deep in the heart of the Schnecktal valley area in Germany. From the surface, though, you would never be able to tell. The majority of the work is underground, as a joint-venture team led by German contractor Wayss and Freytag Ingenieurbau builds the nearly 7km long Finne Tunnel. After a few years of tunnel boring operations, the contractor is at work finishing the interior of the tunnel, slipforming first the tunnel’s floor and then a walkway with its GOMACO
