An Atlas Copco oil-injected rotary screw compressor is working on piling for the bridge, which will span a river in Shanghai's Pu Tuo district
Chinese contractor Shanghai Sheng Xin Construction Co is using an 161 Atlas Copco XAS 67 compressor on a new road bridge project in Shanghai. The new bridge is at Dan Ba Road, one of the main arteries in this older part of the city. The contractor is due to complete the 1km of bridge and approach roads in March of this year. The piling being used for the bridge is steel reinforced concrete as the ground here is soft and requires substantial support. After the piles are driven into the ground, a remainder remains above the surface and the bridge superstructure is mounted on top. Pneumatic hammers remove the concrete and expose the steel reinforcement, with air from the compressor then being used to blast away remaining fragments. There are around 100 piles being driven in total, with 50 on either side of the river.
