The completion date for the West Gate Tunnel project in Melbourne, Australia will now be delayed. The route will not now be ready for vehicles until 2023.

Building the new link is costing US$4.7billion (A$6.7 billion). The route had previously been due for completion in 2022. However the delay will result in the Australian road tolling firm Transurban having to pay penalties.

The new road link will connect the West Gate Feeway at Yarravile to the Powert of Melbourne and CityLink at Docklands. The route features twin tunnels as well as an elevated road stretch and a bridge.
