Vietnam plans bridge link upgrade

A bridge project is being planned in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City that will span the Saigon River. The project is for the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, which will measure 2.16km and connect District 2 with District 7.

A bridge project is being planned in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City that will span the Saigon River. The project is for the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, which will measure 2.16km and connect District 2 with District 7. The bridge will feature six traffic lanes. The project is being planned jointly by the 970 Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) People's Committee and the Ministry of Transport.

The 25km highway is costing some US$476 million to construct, with some 60% of the funding coming from the JBIC Bank and SE Group providing around 20%.     Feasibility studies have been carried out for the No 3 and No 4 beltway projects in Vietnam. The studies were carried out by State-owned firm Transport Engineering Design Inc in the South (TEDI South). These two major beltway projects will require investments pegged at an estimated US$5.35 billion in all and if work goes ahead as planned, the links should be ready for use in 2016.
