Design work is due to commence shortly on an important bridge project in Vietnam. The early design works are now underway, with the detailed design work to due to commence in early 2021.

The Nhon Trach bridge project will provide an improved transport connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province. The 2.2km bridge will span the Dong Nai River and carry three lanes of traffic in either direction, forming part of the project to construct Ring Road No3 and boosting transport around Ho Chi Minh City.

Ring Road No3 is being built in four sections and connects the Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway with Ben Luc on the South West of the city. Building the ring road is costing an estimated US$2.39 billion, while the bridge is costing $94.3 million.

Delays to the ring road project have held back work until now, with construction of this stretch having originally been anticipated to start back in 2016. One section of Ring Road No3, the stretch connecting Tan Van with Binh Chuan, is already in use.
