A time-lapse video has been released showing the rapid replacement of the Barton Corner Bridge in Rhode Island in the US. 3536 Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) partnered with 7653 EarthCam to document the US$6.4 million rapid replacement of the Barton Corner Bridge. The construction project was completed during an 11-day period in August 2014 and can be seen in an exclusive time-lapse, released by RIDOT. Had RIDOT had used conventional methods, the bridge replacement would have taken two full construction seasons. By accelerating the construction process, the bridge was replaced in less than one month, saving money while eliminating traffic congestion.

The project was complex as the Barton Corner Bridge carries four lanes of I-95 plus two auxiliary lanes at a busy interchange with Route 2 on the Warwick/West Warwick line. Using accelerated bridge construction, RIDOOT built two halves of the bridge on land adjacent to the overpass, and then moved them into place. This enabled the new bridge to be constructed much faster compared with conventional construction methods, which would have taken twice the time. This approach also allowed RIDOT to do the work with no impact to Interstate traffic prior to installation.

EarthCam captured the innovative project from multiple angles by installing seven HD cameras in key locations.
