Orlando’s US$1.6 billion Wekiva Parkway toll road project is now complete. Drivers in and around Orlando, Florida will benefit from the completion of the 40km Wekiva Parkway, with this last stretch linking to State Road 417. Work started on the western beltway around Orlando in 2015.

Now that the final section of the Wekiva Parkway, State Road 429, is complete it will help reduce congestion for drivers in Seminole County, Orange County and Lake County.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) opened the ramp connecting westbound I-4 to the Wekiva Parkway last year, linking the western alternate route around the city. The road runs around the West side of Orlando and is expected to cut traffic congestion in the area. The project was managed jointly by FDOT, the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) and Florida's Turnpike Enterprise.

The approvals for the Wekiva Parkway project date back to 2004. The route was intended to provide an alternative route to I-4, State Road 46 and US 441.
