UAE roads project due to commence

Work is due to commence shortly on a major highway project in the UAE. Costing in excess of US$136 million the Tripoli Roads Project is being managed by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The 12km stretch of highway connects the Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road with the Emirates Road and will be widened to boost capacity and cut congestion at peak periods.     A major highway project in the US state of Vriginia has been awarded to a joint venture team comprising Granite Construction, Parsons Corporation, and Corman Construction. The firms will handle the Interstate 64 (I-64) Southside Widening and High Rise Bridge, Phase 1 design-build contract, which was awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation.     United Arab Emirates’ National Transport Authority is planning to impose road tax on trucks and buses crossing the borders of the UAE. The authority is considering charging US$26.65 per bus and about $1.33 per seat.
