UAE highway project underway

Work on the Al Mafraq-Al Ghweifat highway project in the UAE is now well underway. This US$5.3 billion project is due for completion in first half of 2017. The Al Mafraq-Al Ghweifat highway is being built in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi. Work on the first phase of the project was completed in 2016. This is a substantial project that includes the construction of 16 new interchanges and upgrades to 246km of roads.     A joint venture between India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and UAE-based Delma Engineering (Delma) has reportedly emerged as the best bidder for a US$273.71 million (INR 15bn) road project in the Emirates. Indian daily newspaper The Economic Times says the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport-led project involves widening the Mafraq to Al Ghweifat highway. It will be built over a period of 30 months. The joint venture also bids for another two road projects in Abu Dhabi, according to The Economic Times.
