Tyne Tunnel opening

The UK’s new Tyne Tunnel is now open to traffic.

The UK’s new Tyne Tunnel is now open to traffic. The project cost some €303.5 million (£260 million) to construct and provides a second link under the River Tyne. The first link opened to traffic in 1968 and will now be upgraded to meet the latest tunnel legislation.

The Swiss Federal Department for Infrastructure Uvek now intends to build a third tunnel at Jura Mountain by 2022.
