Tunnel construction and infrastructure upgrade

A new partnership has been established between RZDstroy and Alpine Bau. The two firms have set up the joint venture Alpine-RZDstroy business to tackle infrastructure projects in Sochi in Russia and will work on two tunnel projects, providing links for the upcoming Winter Olympics. The two firms are also planning to work on tunnel projects in Austria. Alpine-RZDstroy will build the Alptransit Brenner Baulos Al–Grundausrustung Tunnel in Austria’s Tirol region.

  • Key tunnel upgrade for Austrian network

    Austria’s Arlberg Tunnel is now on track for its planned upgrade. The work will focus on improving safety, in line with European requirements. The twin tube tunnel will benefit from new emergency exists and areas in which broken down vehicles can be parked, as well as sophisticated heat detection technology to provide alerts for vehicle fires and spraying systems. In all the upgrade work is likely to cost some €136 million. The work will be carried out by the PKE-Jäger-BEMO-Hinteregger partnership.
