Tasmania bridge project underway

Construction work is underway in Tasmania, Australia for the new Bridgewater Bridge. This is Tasmania’s largest ever transport infrastructure project and is intended to make travel safer and more efficient. The new bridge will improve travel between the north and south of the state and is scheduled to open to traffic at the end of 2024.

Costing US$526 million (A$786 million), the Bridgewater Bridge Project will require 1,082 concrete bridge segments, which weigh from 50-90tonnes and are 15m-wide. These are being made in a fabrication facility some 2km from the site using five moulds. The bridge measures 1.2km in length and will site on 42 piles.
